Greece

So much for cruising around the Greek Islands in summer. We finally got there near the end of summer - probably just as well because the weather was still really warm. The ship was doing 3 and 4 day cruises around the islands - which meant that there was not much time in each port of call. We normally only had 1/2 a day in each port.

Athens
Near the end of the season we didn't sail 2 weekends in a row because of lack of passengers. We were all happy though. A free weekend with no work and we still got paid. Me and a friend decided to go into Athens to the Plaka district - the old town in Athens (touristy but still nice) and then onto the Acropolis. To me the Acropolis was a bit of a disappointment. Don't get me wrong - still really good, but I didn't find it awe inspiring. Maybe because all the pictures and photos make it look huge. I still got some good photos though.

Patmos
It's really hard for me to have a favourite island, but Patmos would be the best. The island is more me. It's relaxed and laidback - everyone in casual clothes. Definitely the place to sit, have a banana split, watch the world go by and write postcards.

Just a beautiful photo - white buildings and red flowers..

Rhodes
Next stop Rhodes. I loved this island. Maybe it was the fact that we were here for the whole day. Great for sunbathing, eating, drinking, and shopping - what else could a girl ask for.

It was only a 5 minute walk from the ship to the old town. Once again it was touristy but not that expensive. There were heaps of cafes - hard to choose just which one to stop at. I didn't really like Greek music until I was in Greece. There is just something about being in Greece, at an outdoor cafe in the sun with Greek music playing in the background.

A beach was was also 5 minutes away - in fact just in front of the gates to the old town. The beach wasn't great but it had sand and clear water so I was happy. After we had been swimming we saw a sign saying No Swimming. Oh well we didn't die or get sick.
